The persistence of Patriarch Bartholomew to provide the schismatics in Ukraine autocephaly leads to sad results, the Patriarch of Constantinople instead of the Pope should declare repentance, the statement said Seraphim, which was made available to RIA Novosti.
“I was deeply saddened upon hearing about the termination of ecclesiastical communion of the Patriarchate of Russia with the Ecumenical Patriarchate. These sad and disastrous results has led to the persistence of the Ecumenical Patriarchate on the autocephaly of the Ukrainian schismatics who are separated from our Holy Orthodox Church, that is, from all the Orthodox Patriarchates and Autocephalous local Orthodox churches constitute a small minority of the Ukrainian people”, — said the Metropolitan.
Seraphim recalled that until recently the Patriarchate of Constantinople recognized only the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church under the leadership of Metropolitan Onufriy.
“Now he for his own reasons gives the autocephaly of the dissenters of Ukraine and revising the Sacred order and of the canonical Orthodox Archdiocese of Ukraine, which recognizes not only the Russian Orthodox Church, but all the other local Orthodox Churches”, — the document says.
“The dissenters, as we know, are not the Church, and the communion with them is forbidden Divine and Holy Canons, Apostolic and Ecumenical Councils. What then is the perseverance of the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew in recognition of Raskolnikov as an Autocephalous Church? To provoke splits and divisions in a Single, universal and Apostolic Church of Christ?” — said in a statement.
The priest noted that many of the troubles were caused and provoked by the decisions of the Holy Synod, held in Crete in June 2016, and said that he prays for the Church to cope with a spiritual crisis and avoid a painful to the unity of the Orthodox flock of the consequences.
