The court of Sweden took into custody the captain of Russia, put the stranded dry cargo ship BBC Lagos
The defendant admitted that he was drunk and ran the ship in this condition, the lawyer said the Russians.
STOCKHOLM, 5 August. /TASS/. Captain from Russia, put on a stranded dry cargo ship BBC Lagos off the coast of Sweden, taken into custody Sunday. This decision was made by the district court, finding that the suspect in the crime may escape outside of Sweden, said channel SVT.
The captain pleaded guilty to operating your boat while intoxicated. “He admitted that he was drunk and ran the vessel [in this condition], but [said] not want to be detained in Sweden. He [said] he wanted to go home to Russia, where he has family. He was ready, that will take him into custody. Captain he has been working for 11 years and walked on the ship the whole world”, — said the lawyer of the captain Roland Tiden.
The leading case Prosecutor Fredrik Jonsson in the debate, the court noted that the offence the Russians may be sentenced to prison.
“Given the high alcohol content in the blood, that the captain was asleep, as well as the much large size of the ship act is subject to severe punishment,” he said.
The Prosecutor’s office must present to the Russian official, the prosecution no later than August 17.
Russian Consulate in Gothenburg, told TASS on Sunday that keeps the situation under control, is in contact with the Swedish law enforcement authorities and stand ready to assist the Russians with the necessary assistance.

The 130-metre cargo ship BBC Lagos with 5 tons of wheat on Board ran aground on Friday near the port of Helsingborg in the öresund Strait. The captain was arrested “on suspicion of piloting the vessel while drunk and high degree of negligence in navigation” (the alcohol content in his blood was 2.5 ppm) and could get a prison sentence. According to the coast guard, the ship was EN route from Klaipeda (Lithuania) to Las Palmas (Spain). It was on the Caribbean Islands of Antigua and Barbuda.
