Kiev urged the West to impose sanctions against the black sea ports of the Russian Federation
KIEV, July 21. /TASS/. Ukraine stands for the imposition of sanctions against the black sea ports of Russia due to its alleged blockade of the sea of Azov. This was announced by Minister of infrastructure Volodymyr Omelian.
“We are negotiating with our European and American partners, so that appropriate sanctions have been applied to the black sea ports of Russia due to the blockade of the sea of Azov and Ukrainian ports in the sea of Azov”, — he said on Friday evening on air of TV channel “112. Ukraine”.
At the same time on Friday, Deputy foreign Minister of Ukraine Olena zerkal said that the Ukrainian mass media to artificially exacerbate the situation with the examination of Russian ships in Azov sea.
According to her, under international law, warships have the right to stop the civil court for examination, it does not require any mandates. The Deputy Minister also noted that at the moment there are no complaints from ship owners or ship captains that have undergone inspection.
Between Russia and Ukraine is an Agreement on the legal status of the Azov sea and Kerch Strait of 2003 that cemented these expanses of water status of inland waters of Russia and Ukraine. Thus, the parties agreed on joint use and protection of the Azov sea and the Kerch Strait, and introduction of certain restrictions for the navigation of vessels of third countries. However, in early July, the Verkhovna Rada demanded to denounce the agreement between the two countries.
