Putin called the maintaining gas supplies through Ukraine
Russian President Vladimir Putin said at a joint press conference with the American leader Donald trump that Moscow is ready to extend the contract for gas transit to the EU via Ukraine in the event of a settlement of the dispute between “Gazprom” and “Naftogaz” in the Stockholm arbitration court. Putin also assured trump that the launch of the pipeline “Nord stream-2” will not affect the transit of gas through Ukrainian territory. According to the Russian President, neither Moscow nor Washington are interested in shocks in the global oil and gas market.
Negotiations between Russia and the USA in Helsinki on 16 July, including the tête-à-tête between Putin and trump, lasted almost four hours. The Russian leader said that the parties have not resolved many problems, but made the first important step. According to the American President, the dialogue with Putin was direct and open.
In February of this year the Stockholm arbitration court, having considered the counter-claims of “Gazprom” and “Naftogaz” on gas supply and transit, decided that the Russian company must pay out of 2.56 billion for failure to supply the agreed volumes. Gazprom challenged this decision, the Ukrainian side is seeking its execution.
