In the European space Agency announced the disappearance of the ozone hole
MOSCOW, 12 APR — RIA Novosti. The European space Agency (ESA) reports about the disappearance of the ozone hole over Antarctica, these data were obtained by the European satellites Sentinel-5P in the study of the atmosphere in November 2017, according to the website of the Agency.
This is just the initial data from this spacecraft, placed in the public domain. Does this mean that in the future, the hole is not formed again, is unclear. A review of relevant institutions of RIA Novosti has not yet.
The ozone hole over Antarctica is one of the major threats to the global ecosystem, because without the ozone layer Earth defenseless against the harmful ultraviolet radiation of the Sun.
“The first images of the ozone programmes Copernicus Sentinel-5P show the closure of the ozone hole over the South pole in November of 2017”, — stated in the message published on the ESA website.
Attached to the message daily picture, according to which the ozone hole covering half of Antarctica, was delayed by 26 Nov 2017.
During the download an error has occurred.
In addition, the satellite has recorded the allocation of nitrogen dioxide in the troposphere in Europe, Africa, the middle East and India. “Noticeably visible air pollution emitted in large cities and along waterways,” reports ESA.
The ozone hole over the South pole
A sharp drop in stratospheric ozone, the ozone hole was first discovered over Antarctica in the 1980-ies. According to modern concepts, the destruction of ozone (triatomic oxygen molecules) due to the influence of substances, the chlorofluorocarbons, the most famous of which is the group of CFCs.
The scientific confirmation of the depletion of the ozone layer prompted the international community to establish a mechanism for cooperation to take measures to protect it.
In 2014, a study prepared by the experts of the UN environment programme (UNEP) and the world meteorological organization showed that due to the refusal of a number of chemical substances, ozone layer recovery will occur in the coming decades.
