Saakashvili demanded the return of his Georgian citizenship
TBILISI, 2 Jun — RIA Novosti. Mikhail Saakashvili demanded the return of his Georgian citizenship, to be able to participate in the political life of the country.
“Margvelashvili (Giorgi Margvelashvili, President of Georgia. — Approx. ed.) is an absolute coward, because in the first place, he took away my citizenship. If he has the basic courage, if it has a shred of human let me back Georgian citizenship. Let me in Georgia, and I will show you who is afraid of the government and who will scare people,” — Saakashvili said on air of “Rustavi 2”.
Saakashvili claims that he was deprived of citizenship.

In administration of the head of the Georgian state called the words of the former President inadequate, noting that Saakashvili in recent years, for the first time expressed a desire for the return of his passport — and then the “offensive statement.”
“Saakashvili knows that President Margvelashvili takes his Georgian citizenship. It absolutely consciously, personally, lost Georgian citizenship in exchange for Ukrainian. Moreover, during this entire period, he never asked about the resumption of citizenship”, — said the head of the administration Giorgi Abashishvili.
Saakashvili has lost the Georgian citizenship in may 2015 after she received a Ukrainian passport. Under the old rules, the citizen in obtaining a passport of another country was deprived of Georgian. However, he could appeal to the President asking about obtaining dual citizenship as an exception.
In March of this year the Georgian Parliament approved amendments to the Constitution that allowed dual citizenship without deprivation of the Georgian.
