In Macedonia, wounding seven people during protests
BELGRADE, 18 Jul — RIA Novosti. Seven police officers were injured, 25 people were detained during a protest in front of the Parliament building in Skopje due to the renaming of Macedonia, said the interior Ministry.
The Ministers of foreign Affairs of Greece Nikos Kotzias and the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Nikola Dimitrov signed on Sunday an agreement on the new constitutional name of the country — the Republic of North Macedonia. The agreement named the parties and representatives of international organizations historical and paves the way for Skopje to join NATO and the EU.
Renaming and contract terms previously caused a categorical rejection of the various parties of the Macedonian opposition. Day, the largest movement of opponents of Prime Minister Zoran zaeva — VMRO-DPMNE — held a peaceful protest March in Bitola on the border with Greece. “Some of the demonstrators used fireworks and tried to force his way into the Assembly (Parliament), the Police used tear gas. Injured seven police officers detained 25 people”, — summarized the Ministry said and called on citizens to a peaceful protest.
Local media reported that, according to informal data, during clashes with police injured several protesters, including women and the operator of one of local TV channels.
