Shoigu congratulated servicemen and veterans on defender of the Fatherland Day
MOSCOW, 23 Feb — RIA Novosti. The Minister of defence of Russia Sergey Shoigu congratulated Russian servicemen and veterans on defender of the Fatherland Day and noted that the Russian military effectively solve the tasks of ensuring state security, defend its interests, improve professional skills and successfully compete against international terrorism.
“Today, the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation continue to effectively resolve the responsible tasks to ensure the security of our country, the protection of its national interests. Staff confident to master modern weapons and military equipment, improving professional skills, successfully fighting international terrorism,” — said in a congratulatory speech, published on the website of the Ministry of defence in Facebook.
Added that in commemoration of the holiday Shoigu ordered to produce artillery salutes at 21:00 local time with the involvement of military units of the armed forces in Moscow, Volgograd, Kerch, Murmansk, Novorossiysk, St.-Petersburg, Sevastopol, Smolensk, Tula and in the cities of the dislocation of the headquarters of military districts, fleets, combined arms armies and the Caspian flotilla.
In Russia February 23 is the Day of defender of the Fatherland. The holiday originated in the USSR, then this day is annually celebrated Day of Soviet army and Navy. On this day, the Russians, as a rule, honoring those who served or serves in the Armed forces, but also the date became an occasion to congratulate all the men.
