Kamchatka has declared avalanche danger

According to the regional emergency, spontaneous avalanches are possible on mountain territories of Ust-Bolsheretsk, Sobolev, Elizovo region, Bystrinsky, Milkovsky and Ust-Kamchatka areas.

TASS, February 12. Kamchatka regional avalanche center announced a storm warning in connection with high risk of avalanches, said Monday in a press-service of the regional EMERCOM.

“Due to the increased risk of avalanches from the slopes of volcanoes and mountains, the Kamchatka regional avalanche center announced a storm warning. In the period from 00:00 on the Kamchatka time February 13 to February 15, spontaneous avalanches are possible on mountain territories of Ust-Bolsheretsk, Sobolev, Yelizovo (especially of the basin of the Paratunka), including on the territory of the Kronotsky nature reserve, Bystrinsky, Milkovsky and Ust-Kamchatka areas, the city of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, as well as volcanoes Viluchinsky, Kozelsky, Koryak and Avachinsky”, — stated in the message.

Rescuers recommend tourists, sportsmen and hunters to refrain from visiting the avalanche slopes in the next few days. Informed of EMERCOM of Russia in Kamchatskiy Krai warned about approaching the shores of Kamchatka the cyclone. According to the forecast, Monday morning in the South of Ust-Bolsheretsk and Yelizovo municipal areas the wind speed will be 45 to 50 meters per second. It is expected that the cyclone will act in the first half of the day and will continue to impact the Ust-Kamchatsky district, where it is expected heavy snow, the East wind 25 — 30 metres per second and snowstorm.
