Physicists from Russia spoke about the creation of optical computer
Russian physics together with foreign colleagues for the first time were able to study the internal structure of bulk photonic crystals, which are considered the basis of a promising ultrafast electronics.
According to the study authors, understanding the structure will allow us to begin to design the optical components of computers of the next generation of processors which information will carry electrons, and photons.
“Having information about the defect structure, we can understand the logic which changes the direction of movement of the light beam. It is possible to try to collect on the basis of photonic crystals, logic circuits”, — said the employee of laboratory “Superconducting metamaterials” nust “MISIS” Ilya Besedin.
He added that researchers have not yet learned to control the formation of the defect: they can only “try to shrink it at the macro level”.
