The state Duma has toughened penalties for animal cruelty
The law does not apply to the slaughter of farm livestock.
On Friday, December 8, the state Duma adopted in the second reading the bill toughening criminal punishment for zhivoderstvo. Now those who show cruelty to the treatment of animals, could face up to five years of imprisonment.
If earlier for cruelty to animals, which caused their death or injury, provided the maximum punishment in the form of arrest for up to 6 months, but now the minimum term of imprisonment for zhivoderstvo will be three years, maximum five years, RIA Novosti reported.
“We have made a number of very important steps forward. First, the term of imprisonment for zhivoderstvo installs up to five years in prison. Second, we introduce punishment for the hunters, that is responsible for killing several animals. Third, tougher criminal responsibility for the sadistic actions against animals. Fourth, we introduce additional responsibility for public broadcasting facts zhivoderstva on the Internet. Fifth, tougher penalties for involvement of minors”, — said journalists the Chairman of the Duma Committee on ecology and environmental protection Vladimir burmatov.
