Continued: MOK punished Mutko
The Executive Committee of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has suspended the national team of Russia from participation in the Olympic winter games in 2018. This was stated by the President Thomas Bach at a press conference, the broadcast of which is available on the website of the IOC.
Athletes, who proved that he had not used doping, will be able to compete under a neutral flag. The Olympic Committee of Russia (OKR) has been disqualified by the decision of the Executive Committee. Also to all the officials from the Ministry of sports of Russia denied accreditation to the Games in Pyeongchang.
The Executive Committee meeting held in Lausanne (Switzerland). The decision was made based on the findings of two commissions: Denis Oswald and Samuel Schmidt. The first dealt double-check the doping tests of participants of the Olympic games in Sochi, the second investigated the involvement of the employees of the Ministry of sports of Russia for a possible concealment of positive doping tests.
In November, the Russian team took 10 medals won in Sochi. Thus, the team lost first place in the team standings.
Olympic winter games in Pyeongchang will be held from 9 to 25 February 2018.
