Come here to look at the world’s largest water lilies whose leaves can withstand weight up to 65 kg.
Children and slender adults are allowed to climb onto the Lily pad and take a photo. Need to have time for 60 seconds. To be longer on the leaves is prohibited. Should sit on a special litter.
Victoria Amazonian water tropical plant of the family nymphaeaceae. A native of the Amazon basin, it was brought to Taiwan and is grown now in Taipei, Tainan, Taoyuan city and other cities.
Flowers plants hiding under the water and appear on the surface only once a year. Flowering lasts only 2-3 days. The flowers are pale white with a diameter of 20-30 cm and bloom in the evening, remain open until the morning of the next day. Then they hide in the water and appear again just after noon. On the second day of flowering, they become pale pink, then dark crimson or purple. In the wild the plant can live up to 5 years.
To grow the water Lily is extraordinarily difficult. Plant harmful as too high a temperature, and various animals. The Park staff are committed to the fight against the snails that bore holes in young leaves.
Amazon Victoria opened in 1832. For a long time the plant tried unsuccessfully to cultivate. Only in the mid-nineteenth century water-Lily first flowered in the English Botanical garden of Kew gardens and in Ghent, Belgium. In Russia, the plant was first grown in the Petersburg Botanical garden in 1864.
