Identified an unexpected risk of alcoholic beverages
Scientists at new York University found that the consumption of alcoholic beverages provokes the growth of pathogenic microflora in the oral cavity. This increases the risk of gum disease, some cancers and cardiovascular diseases. About it reported in a press release on MedicalXpress.
The study included 1044 men aged 55-78 years, which took samples of the microflora of the oral cavity. Experts compared the species composition of bacteria in 270 nondrinkers, moderate drinkers and 614 160 constantly drinking.

Scientists have divided the drinkers into 4 types
It turned out that alcohol provoked changes of the microflora, resulting in increased number of Bacteroidales, Actinomyces and Neisseria. At the same time decreased the number of Lactobacillales, which prevent the development of some dangerous diseases. The degree of changes depends on the frequency of consumption of alcohol.
Bacteroidales can cause a variety of inflammatory and purulent diseases, as well as provoke the development of malignant tumors. Actinomycetes can cause endocarditis and actinomycosis. The Neisseria genus includes the causative agents of gonorrhea and meningitis.
Earlier, in March 2018 published the results of research scientists of the University of Munich, which showed that excessive alcohol consumption is associated with risk of atrial fibrillation — a form of heart failure which may become chronic disease.
