Putin and Erdogan gave start to the beginning of construction of NPP “Akkuyu” in Turkey
ANKARA, April 3. /TASS/. The President of Russia and Turkey Vladimir Putin and Recep Tayyip Erdogan, in a videoconference launched the start of construction of NPP “Akkuyu.”
This nuclear power station will be the first nuclear power plant built in Turkey. As noted earlier, the Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov, providing its construction, Russia stands at the origins of Turkey’s nuclear industry, contributing to the development of its advanced, energy-efficient nuclear technologies.
He also stressed that the project of NPP construction “Akkuyu” received the status of a strategic investment that will save about $10 billion in its construction, since in this case provides tax benefits and incentives from the Turkish government. The total cost of NPP construction will amount to $20 billion.
The Russian President also announced plans to attend the ceremony of the launch of the NPP “Akkuyu” in 2023.

The decision of the Turkish authorities to provide the project of NPP construction “Akkuyu” strategic status greatly increases its usefulness and attractiveness for investment. This opinion expressed by Vladimir Putin, speaking at the launching ceremony of the construction of the first NPP unit.
“We are grateful to the Turkish colleagues for the decision to provide advanced joint project of the status of a strategic investment to expand for a list of tax privileges and preferences, — said the Russian leader. I want to thank all the Turkish friends for this decision.” Putin noted that it “made this project economically feasible, profitable.” “I want to address with words of gratitude to the deputies of the Turkish Parliament. Putin also stressed that the Russian side is willing to actively cooperate in the training of highly qualified specialists to service the station. He said that now in Russian universities enrolled more than 220 Turkish students in areas related to nuclear energy, and 35 citizens of Turkey have already received diplomas from one of the world’s leading universities in the field of nuclear energy of the Russian MIFI — and suggestions about work in the project company “Akkuyu”.
