MOSCOW, 3 Mar — RIA Novosti. A service dog, which the US army used to search for explosives during operations in Afghanistan, after the service was unattended and the owners and faced ill-treatment, according to the report of the office of the inspector General of the Ministry of defense.

The report notes that the dogs, trained to detect explosives, were used by the US army under a special program in operations in Afghanistan since 2010. In 2014 this program was completed, but subsequently the army were not specifically control the placement of more than 150 dogs.

“The army was selected and trained soldiers attached to units, as temporary owners of these dogs only for the duration of the operation,” the report reads.

Some of the dogs left without “work”, given to family or organizations, but more than a hundred of the animals remained for a long time in kennels. It is noted that the army did not control how the owners got the dog so is likely to be treated carelessly or aggressively.

Another 13 dogs were taken into the care of a U.S. based private company that was planning to train service animals for veterans. However, as it turns out in the report, the company eventually gave the dogs to the kennel, not giving money for their upkeep. It is noted that the army “has not conducted due diligence on individuals and organizations who took to his dogs.”
