Scientific knowledge of Russians left much to be desired

Only 2.3% of Russians answered correctly on tests from high school, found “Levada-Center”.

Moscow. 5 Feb. INTERFAX.RU — Only 2.3% of Russians correctly answered all seven tests from different fields of science, taken from the high school program, found “Levada-Center”.

As shown by the survey on science literacy, 7.2% of respondents gave correct answers to six tests. 4-5 tests were 30.5%, the 0-3 test — more than half (59.9 per cent) of respondents. However, in nine years (since 2009) average number of passed tests has increased slightly from 3.9 to 4.0 (out of seven).

The study, conducted among 1612 respondents on a representative sample of the adult population, sociologists have proposed to determine false or true are the following scientific statements:

“The continents are moving for millions of years and will continue to move in the future” (the correct answer is that this is true, given 70% of the respondents, wrong — 9%);

“Electron less than the atom” (the judgment is correct, answered correctly 55% vs 16%);
