MOSCOW, may 12. The Minister of foreign Affairs of Russia Sergey Lavrov on Tuesday via video link, will take part in session of Council of foreign Ministers of the CIS.
The meeting of foreign Ministers of the CIS will be the fourth Ministerial meeting in the format of a videoconference in which participates the head of Russian diplomacy since the introduction of restrictive measures in connection with the coronavirus. The Minister of foreign Affairs of Russia have already held talks in this mode, with the foreign Ministers of Turkey and Iran on Syria, with colleagues in the BRICS, as well as in Normandy “format”.
This year the CIS holds the presidency of Uzbekistan. As pointed out in the Russian depodesta in the eve of the meeting, the agenda includes 14 questions on a wide range of areas of cooperation within the Commonwealth. In particular, the Ministers will discuss issues of cooperation between foreign policy departments for solving problems of a humanitarian character, connected with counteraction against the spread of coronavirus infection. Earlier in interview to the newspaper “Kommersant” Lavrov stressed that Russia does not neglect any one of the appeals of the CIS countries for help in combating the pandemic. As told in an interview with TASS Deputy Minister of foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Andrey Rudenko, in addition to 1.5 thousand delivered test kits for the diagnosis of coronavirus in April – may, Moscow will give the Commonwealth another 3 thousand test kits.
In addition, special attention will be paid to the 75th anniversary of the Victory in the great Patriotic war, attempts of falsification of history, glorification of Nazi criminals, “war” with the monuments. In most CIS countries the scope of the festive events on may 9 was limited due to the pandemic.
The meeting will also consider draft documents aimed at deepening our partnership in law enforcement, military and cultural-humanitarian spheres. A number of the adopted draft documents will be submitted for consideration of the Council of CIS heads of government scheduled for may 29, and the Council of CIS heads of state on October 16. In addition, the parties will summarize the progress over the past year work on implementation of the plan of multilevel Ministerial consultations within the CIS and approve an appropriate plan for the next period.
Among other topics to be considered the issues of strengthening international youth cooperation, development cooperation of the States-participants of Commonwealth in the field of tourism, physical culture and sports. It is expected that the meeting will be approved by the project strategies in these areas for the next decade.
