Pentagon: US concerned about the activities of Russian representatives in the CAR

WASHINGTON, February 7. /TASS/. The United States feels concern about the activities of Russian representatives in the Central African Republic (CAR). This was stated on Thursday the head of the African command (AFRICOM) Armed forces (AF) of the United States, General of the marine Corps Thomas Waldhauser.

Speaking at a hearing of the Committee on armed services of the Senate of the U.S. Congress, he claimed that the CAR is currently running slightly less than 200 employees of one of the private Russian security structures, known as the “Wagner Group”.

“I’ll just point to the Central African Republic, which has about 175 instructors “group of Wagner”, in which some individuals in fact are in the presidential office, and they affect the preparation of [the local forces] and at the same time have access to mineral resources in this part of the country,” said the American commander.

“So we are concerned about the fact that this model can have a positive consider other States in terms of … the ability of [third countries] to prepare [their national armed forces], to influence the government at the presidential level, and then to participate in mining,” he added, Waldhauser.
