WASHINGTON, 23 Feb — RIA Novosti. The house of representatives of the United States Congress passed a law in support of NATO, according to the results of the vote.
A bill passed by 357 votes to 22, is designed to prohibit the President of the United States Donald Trump a possible exit from the Alliance. Trump in the past has criticized NATO and said that the unit is “obsolete”, and also demanded from the allies to pay “fair share” of defense spending of NATO, three quarters of which occur in the United States. While trump has not said publicly about the intention to withdraw from the Alliance.
Congress could formally ban the Trump exit from the block, however, can block funding for this purpose. Similar tactics were used in Congress to prevent Barack Obama to close the military prison at Guantanamo Bay.
The bill of the house of representatives calls upon the members of NATO promised to spend 2% GDP on defense, talking about trump. The bill also promises to further funding for the so-called European initiative of containment, directed against Russia.
