The Cathedral of St. Sebastian in Rio de Janeiro in Brazil is a serious contender for the title of one of the most unusual in the world. It’s not like any one of those churches, to which we are accustomed. In fact, it’s just a giant pyramid.

The unusual temple is in the city centre for 37 years, and its construction lasted for 12 years. It is a huge truncated cone with a diameter of 106 and 96 meters in height, inside of which can accommodate up to 20 thousand members (although the seats in the Church only 5 thousand).

For some reason the architect Edgar Fonseca wanted the building was like a Mayan pyramid in Mexico, and it turned out perfectly.

Inside, the walls and roof of the building are decorated with colourful stained glass, and in Sunny weather they are iridescent.

By the way, in a Cathedral there is an underground chamber, which houses the Museum of sacred Art.
