They help to fill the plant with oxygen.

In some regions of India, you can see a strange forest. The trees in it “prefer” not to hide the roots, and keep them in sight — half-sunk in the water.

In some forests of the Western Ghats, there are plants with specialised roots, spongy ones that surface out of the soil and water and loop back in. Read on as @anishafishtoe tells us more about Myristica Swamps and how they are in deep waters now. https://t.co/F5RghMaaLx pic.twitter.com/YnjAEQ3MEo

This “habit” of the plant developed in the course of evolution, forced to adapt to waterlogged soil.

Trees with stilted roots typical of many mangrove forests growing in the littoral zone of the sea coasts and river mouths. Underground plant tissues require oxygen, but in silty soil it is almost absent. In the end, the trees grow aerial roots shapes, which are not only air flow, but also help secure a foothold on the shifting day.

In India, at the foot of the mountain chain of the Western Ghats, wetland forests are composed entirely of muskatirovic trees. Stilted roots of these plants are very long, meandering and reminiscent of the hands of fabulous monsters.
