Putin said that Russia will continue to assist South Ossetia in safety issues
TSKHINVALI, August 26. /TASS/ — the President has added that Russia’s recognition of the state sovereignty of the Republic opened in front of her “broad prospects for self-development.”

Russia will continue to assist South Ossetia, including in matters of national security, says the greeting message of the President of Russian Federation Vladimir Putin, which was read by Ambassador of the Russian Federation in South Ossetia, Marat Kulakhmetov, in celebration of the 10th anniversary of Moscow’s recognition of state independence of the Republic.
“Russia is pleased at the achievements made by South Ossetia in building the institutions of statehood, as well as in various sectors of national development. We intend to continue to assist in addressing South Ossetia tasks, including in the sphere of ensuring national security”, — stated in the text.
Putin noted that Russia recognized the state sovereignty of the Republic opened in front of her “broad prospects for self-development.” The President wished the people of South Ossetia peace and prosperity.
On the night of 8 August 2008, Georgia attacked South Ossetia. Russia has risen on protection of citizens of the Republic, many of whom by that time had taken the citizenship of Russia and its peacekeepers. The result is a five-day war killed more than 1 thousand people, of which 72 — Russian soldiers. On 26 August 2008 Russia recognized the independence of South Ossetia and another former Georgian autonomy — Abkhazia.
