In Estonia put up for sale the fortress

Moscow. April 29. INTERFAX.RU — the Estonian Government decided to auction sea fortress Battery related to European monuments. The new owner of the fortress for six years will need to undertake renovation and to build a boardwalk by the sea, reported “Interfax” the press service of the government.

As noted by the Minister of public administration Jaak AAB (Jaak Aab), step-by-step renovation of the entire complex will cost the new owner of 70-80 million euros.

The Ministry of Finance has developed conditions of sale of real estate on the understanding that the public interest in protecting the property.

The construction of the naval fortress began in 1828 for the protection of the Baltic borders by order of Nicholas I and was completed in 1840. The limestone facade is perfectly preserved to our days. Artillery guns of the fortress fired not even once: with the development of technology the fortress lost its value as a military building.

In 1867 there were barracks for the soldiers, and in 1919, located on four hectares of military coastal fortifications became a prison. Surrounded by watchtowers, the fortress after the prison was closed in 2003 and became a tourist attraction and a venue for exhibitions.
