Archaeologists found in the ancient Roman city of Pompeii perished due to the eruption of the volcano, a new artifact — the depiction of Narcissus, the hero of Greek mythology who fell in love with his own reflection.
The Roman town of Pompeii was destroyed in 79 ad due to the eruption of the volcano mount Vesuvius. Lava and ashes covered the city and everyone in it was conserved Pompeii for centuries — so there is a unique archaeological monument, the excavation of which is still going on.

Archaeologists have been working in the V area of the city, in one of the villas belonging to noble families. In November 2018 in the bedroom of this Villa already found a fresco depicting Leda and the Swan. It illustrated a story from ancient mythology, where the king of Sparta’s wife, Leda, has intercourse with Zeus, took the form of a Swan. Also, according to the head of the excavation Alfonsina Russo, in the hallway of the Villa guests were welcomed by the image of Priapus — the Greek God of fertility, gardens and fields. His image is found on a nearby Villa (house of Wittii).
Now the employees of the archaeological Park of Pompeii found a new mural in the atrium of the building. It depicts a classic story of Narcissus: a young man bent over the water and admire at his reflection. The face of mythical beauty, however, has not survived. Next is a winged figure, perhaps, is the Greek God of love Eros. The dog pulls Narcissa for clothes, trying to pull the boy from the water. According to the archaeologists, the colors on the mural have been preserved exceptionally well, despite the fact that her more than two thousand years old (her appearance is dated back to II century BC).
According to the myth, Narcissus was a supernaturally beautiful young man, who was destined to live long, unless he sees himself. He rejected everyone who it falls in love. Rejected asked the goddess Nemesis to punish the haughty young man, and she had arranged so that Narcissus saw himself in the reflection of the pond. He fell in love with his reflection and not in forces was to break away from him until he died from hunger and longing.

Also in the atrium of the mural have found traces of a staircase leading to the upper floor, the remains of glass containers, bronze funnel and amphorae — vessels for storage of liquids and solids.
Excavations carried out in the framework of the project “Great Pompeii” and covers the territory with a perimeter of 3 kilometers, which runs along the still unexplored district of Pompeii.
