Several centuries ago the inhabitants of the Indian city Madurai, in Tamil Nadu, decided to restore the destroyed by the Muslims in 1310 Meenakshi temple, named after goddess Meenakshi, one of the wives of Shiva.

Restoring an ancient stone-built complex of 12 towers with a height of 50 meters, the builders found that more than 33 thousand sculptures of gray adorning the walls of the temple look very bored and decided to give them a more cheerful look. In the end, the Meenakshi temple has become the most colorful religious building in India.
It is noteworthy that none of the 33 thousand figures of deities and mythical creatures that adorn the walls of the temple, is not repeated.
