Geologists told, where will the next change of the poles of the Earth
MOSCOW, 1 Mar — RIA Novosti. Geologists tracked the fluctuations in the strength of the magnetic field of the Earth over the last two thousand years and came to the conclusion that the next revolution of its poles will not happen in a random place, and a special “magic point” on the territory of South Africa, said in an article published in the journal Geophysical Research Letters.
“Now we know that this point behaved in an unusual way at least several times prior to the current field weakening, and that this behavior is part of the longer fluctuations of the Earth’s poles. Unfortunately, we are unable to say whether these fluctuations for their coup or not,” said John Tarduno (John Tarduno) from the University of Rochester (USA). Two years ago, Tarduno and his colleagues made a surprising discovery — they have found a very unusual magnetic anomaly in South Africa from the banks of the Limpopo river, where the magnetic field strength fell sharply and fallen to critically low values in the XIII—XVI centuries of our era.
This is the first time pointed to the fact that the upheavals of the Earth’s poles do not occur randomly, but at specific points with anomalous properties.
Such prospects made the team, Tarduno to check any changes in the strength of the magnetic field of the Earth in this point and in other time periods — the antiquity, the middle ages and the last two centuries. To do this, geologists have used the same unusual technique, which helped them to make the first opening.
Then they noticed that the rituals that the tribes of Bushmen have traditionally used to clean their village from “evil” spirits and insects, have an interesting side-effect connected with religion, and science.
Burning their huts, corrals and other buildings, the natives of South Africa “recorded” information about the strength, polarity and other properties of Earth’s magnetic field in sediments of clay, over which was built the house.
