The Kremlin considers the political developments in Armenia its internal matter

MOSCOW, 23 APR — RIA Novosti. The Kremlin believes the internal political developments in Armenia an internal matter, said Monday the press Secretary of the President Dmitry Peskov.

“This is purely an internal affair of Armenia, probably, that’s all I can say,” — said Peskov told reporters in response to the question, whether the Kremlin sees the threat of destabilization in the region because of the protests in the country.

However, he noted that Russia is closely watching what is happening in this country.

“Armenia is our closest ally, a country with which we have developed the closest relations, Armenia is a member of the EurAsEC. So, of course, extremely important for us in this country, so we are very closely watching what is happening there”, — said Peskov.

On the question of whether the administration of the President of any special regime in the Russian military base in Gyumri or in General orders addressed to the military of the Russian Federation in Armenia, press Secretary of the head of state was advised to go to the defense Ministry. “To address yet in the Ministry of defence should issue,” he said.

Protests against the election of Serzh Sargsyan Prime Minister of Armenia began on April 13. Sargsyan was twice elected to the presidency in 2008 and 2013. The opposition accuses him of mismanagement and the deterioration of the economic situation in the country. On 17 April the opposition announced the beginning of the “velvet revolution”. Despite the protests, the Parliament of Armenia on the same day, Sargsyan was elected head of the Cabinet. Sunday, talks were held between the leader of the opposition, MP Nikol Pashinyan and Sargsyan, they lasted three minutes and ended inconclusively.
