On Tuesday, the 29-year-old immigrant from Uzbekistan was shot down by a camper a few dozen people in the heart of new York city, eight of them died.
Police shot and wounded Saipov in the stomach. He is currently in the hospital recovering.
In a statement the Prosecutor’s office stated that Saipov had waived his right not to testify against himself and admitted that he was inspired by propaganda grouping “Islamic state” (banned in Russia).
Earlier Wednesday, the President of the United States Donald trump welcomed the idea to send Saipov (whom he called “animals”) camp in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, as “enemy combatant” in the “war on terrorism” declared after September 11, 2001. This initiative previously supported Republican senators John McCain and Lindsey Graham, in General, often critically assessing the current President.
In parallel, trump advocated for the elimination of the program green card, in which, according to preliminary information, Saipov arrived in the U.S. in 2010.
Also on Wednesday evening there were reports that the FBI is looking for another Uzbek man in the framework of the investigation on this case.
