Ukraine submitted to the Secretariat of the Third Committee of the UN General Assembly an updated draft resolution on human rights in Crimea. About the Agency “UKRINFORM” said the press Secretary of the permanent mission of Ukraine to the world organization Oleg Nikolenko.
He said that the resolution contains a requirement to Moscow to lift the ban with the organization “the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people” (banned in Russia) and to provide instruction in Ukrainian and Crimean Tatar languages on the Peninsula. The document also emphasizes “the need for access of international organizations to the occupied Crimea”.
“Now the sponsors of the document were made by 34 of the country”, — said Olga Nicolenco.
According to him, the voting on the resolution in the Third Committee is scheduled for mid-November. In December the document will be put to a popular vote in the General Assembly.
On Tuesday, introducing the resolution in the UN General Assembly announced the Minister of foreign Affairs of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin. According to him, the new resolution on Crimea “should become the basis for the consolidation of efforts for de-occupation of the Peninsula.” As suggested by the head of the Ukrainian foreign Ministry, this document can be used later in litigation against Russia.
