MOSCOW, April 18. /TASS/. The deputies of the LDPR faction Yaroslav Nilov, and Igor Lebedev introduced the state Duma a draft law on the establishment in Russia of a new holiday and weekend — Easter Monday. About this TASS said Tuesday in a press-service of the Duma of the liberal Democrats.
We are talking about amendments to article 112 of the Labour code of the Russian Federation “in the part of the establishment’s annual non-working day on Monday after Sunday’s day of religious celebration of the resurrection of Christ”, is spoken in the explanatory note, the text of which is available on the TASS. “The project was developed in order to legislatively consolidate the establishment of a new public holiday — Easter Monday”, — stated in the accompanying documents.
The authors point out that the Labour code of the Russian Federation regions of Russia is empowered to establish public holidays in addition to Federal public holidays. “These public holidays established in the Republic of Bashkortostan, Republic of Tatarstan, the Republic of Crimea in the days of Muslim religious holidays, Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha, as well as in other constituent entities of the Russian Federation” — reminiscent of the liberal Democrats.
According to experts, a large part of the population of the Russian Federation (up to 85%, according to opinion polls) noted Orthodox religious feast of the Resurrection (Easter).
“The establishment of a new public holiday Easter Monday will be not only a tribute to the deep historical traditions of the Orthodox community of our country, but also another confirmation of the government and society recognition of the special role of Orthodoxy in Russian history, in the formation and development of its spirituality and culture” — believe the developers. They also note that in many Western European countries the Monday following the day of the Resurrection, is a day.
