Austrian Finance Minister Gernot Blumel, who is a close associate former Chancellor of the Republic, Sebastian Kurz, announced his retirement after Kurz's decision to leave politics. He announced this on Thursday, December 2, on his Facebook page.
He noted that he made a decision in connection with the birth of his second child and because of threats to his family.
“The final resignation of Sebastian Kurz from all political posts was the final blow to my final decision. I decided to leave politics primarily for the sake of my family, “Blumel said.
Earlier, Austrian Federal Chancellor Alexander Schallenberg announced his readiness to leave his post.
On December 2, the former Austrian Chancellor and leader of the Austrian People's Party Sebastian Kurz announced the final decision to leave politics. Kurz announced his resignation from the post of chancellor of Austria on October 9. The politician made this decision due to the fact that an investigation is underway against him on suspicion of complicity in bribery and breach of trust. On November 18, the National Council of Austria deprived him of his parliamentary immunity.
According to investigators, from 2016 to 2018, the Ministry of Finance of the country used funds from the budget “to finance exclusively party-politically motivated, sometimes manipulated polls conducted by a public opinions in the interests of a political party and its highest official ”. In addition, the poll data appeared in the “Austrian daily newspaper” and was not labeled as advertisements.
The politician does not admit his guilt and claims that his innocence has already been proven by an independent legal expert.
