According to one of the migrants, Martin, many of the visitors are from different cities of Iraq, mainly from the Kurdish region. They spent between $ 2,400 and $ 5,000 on travel. The man added that the rates depend on the location of the person. The migrants arrived in Minsk via Istanbul and have been in the city for a week, he said.
The newcomers are in no hurry to go to the border with the EU, because they saw many videos that show Spartan conditions. Many relatives of refugees say that it is still impossible to get out of these camps.
In Minsk, wealthy migrants move into hotels, while the poor get a bed. Some apartments in houses have also begun to be converted to accommodate migrants.
From the beginning of 2021, people began to flock to the border of Belarus with Latvia, Lithuania and Poland. The crisis escalated sharply on November 8 after several thousand people approached the Polish border from the Belarusian side.
