President of Kazakhstan appoints Alikhan Smailov as prime minister

The President of Kazakhstan introduced the candidacy of a new prime minister for & nbsp; consideration of the Mazhilis (lower house of parliament). The meeting of the parliament was held in & nbsp; mode of video communication, reports TASS. All members of the Mazhilis voted for the & nbsp; appointment of Alikhan Smailov. Tokayev then signed the corresponding decree.

On January 2 & nbsp; in & nbsp; Kazakhstan, due to the & nbsp; rise in prices for & nbsp; liquefied gas, protests began, which later escalated into riots. At the & nbsp; demand of the protesters, the government of Kazakhstan resigned. Tokayev called the protests an attempted coup.
