An infectious disease specialist assessed the omicron's chances of becoming a “natural vaccine” against COVID-19

Dr. Malyshev on the chances of the omicron to become a “natural vaccine”: this is how the swine flu disappeared

strain of coronavirus. So the chances of a new strain of becoming a natural vaccine against COVID-19 in an interview with “Lenta.ru” were assessed by the former chief infectious disease specialist of Moscow, Doctor of Medical Sciences Nikolai Malyshev.

“The idea itself is not new, Professor Altstein is I expressed the idea a week ago that this is possible. Another thing is that we still poorly know the parameters of this strain. Therefore, time will tell whether it is possible or not, “the specialist said.

He compared the COVID-19 pandemic with the outbreak of swine flu in 2009-2010 and noted that this is how the virus disappeared.

“We already had such an example, if you remember. Swine flu, which was raging in the beginning, and then descended and became seasonal and did not cause any fear. So the idea is good, but we'll see how it will be implemented, “said Malyshev.

In his opinion, now, without understanding all the characteristics of the omicron strain, one can only guess about the consequences of its spread.

Earlier, a virologist, doctor of medical sciences, professor, chief employee of the Gamaleya Research Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology Anatoly Altstein, in an interview with Lenta.ru, said that it was too early to call the omicron strain a vaccine against coronavirus. In his opinion, such statements require more research and time.
