Since November 29, the US authorities have banned entry for travelers from eight African countries in connection with the spread of a new strain of coronavirus. Restrictions affected South Africa, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Namibia, Lesotho, Eswatini, Mozambique and Malawi.

The newest strain COVID-19 B.1.1.529 was identified in South Africa, it was assigned the Greek letter “omicron” (O ). Experts from the World Health Organization (WHO) have recognized it as a threat. It may affect more people around the world, including those with other strains, and existing vaccines may not be effective.
