The new general director of the Gorky Moscow Art Theater, Vladimir Kekhman, announced the renaming of the theater

The Moscow Art Academic Theater (MKhAT) named after Gorky will be renamed. This announcement was made by the new general director of the institution, Vladimir Kekhman, reports TASS on Friday, December 3.

Kekhman stressed that the theater will be given its historical name. It will be called the Art Theater – Moscow Art Theater named after Gorky. “The new name of the theater will be the old one,” said the director of the institution.

Earlier in December, Kekhman spoke about the possibility of merging his theater with the Chekhov Moscow Art Theater. He noted that this issue should be accepted by the Ministry of Culture of Russia.

Businessman Vladimir Kekhman was appointed general director of the theater in October, a month later, former director and artistic director Eduard Boyakov left the theater and wrote a statement of his own free will.

The Gorky Moscow Art Theater appeared after the division of the Gorky Moscow Art Theater into two theaters in 1987. The second institution was the Chekhov Moscow Art Theater.
