Deaths from coronavirus in Russia set a record

Rosstat: in October 2021, COVID-19 in the Russian Federation became the main cause of death of 68 734 people

In October 2021, the coronavirus in Russia turned out to be the leading cause of death of 68,734 people, setting a record. This is stated in the data of Rosstat, TASS reports.

In 58,822 cases, according to Rosstat, coronavirus has already been confirmed as the main cause of death. Also, in 1141 cases, COVID-19, not being the main cause, affected mortality, and in 5018 deceased, the infection was detected, but their deaths were not associated with it.

At the same time, the operational headquarters for combating the infection registered in October 31,551 deaths due to coronavirus in the Russian Federation. Different data are due to the fact that it takes into account only those cases when covid became the main cause of death and this was quickly confirmed.

In October 2020, according to Rosstat, COVID-19 was confirmed as the main cause of death or it was assumed as such in 15,103 cases.

Earlier, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova said that mortality in Russia in October 2021 increased by 20.3 percent compared to the same period in 2020. At the same time, mortality from other diseases decreased by 6.2 percent.
