Belarusian security forces recognize BYSOL human rights foundation as extremists

The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Belarus recognized the BYSOL foundation as an extremist formation The corresponding statement was published by the Ministry's Telegram channel.

The BYSOL Foundation was founded in 2020 in response to the actions of the Belarusian authorities to suppress protests in the country. Fund employees help citizens of Belarus who claim political persecution against them – BYSOL collects money for families of political prisoners dismissed for political reasons, as well as those who want to urgently leave Belarus. The Foundation also finances a number of media opposition to President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko.

Belarusian security forces in the country are actively fighting Lukashenko's opponents, recognizing their resources and the people themselves as extremists. Thousands of criminal cases have been initiated in the country under articles related to extremism and terrorism, and not only state security officers, but also the Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for combating organized crime are involved in identifying oppositionists.

In October 2021, the Belarusian authorities the head of the human rights center Viasna, Ales Bialiatski, was accused of tax evasion. At the same time, Bialiatski was detained and placed in a pre-trial detention center back in July.
