Moscow is ready to restore dialogue with the United States. This was stated by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov at a meeting with US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, RIA Novosti reports.

First of all, the Russian minister noted that Russia and the United States can quickly solve the problem with the functioning of the embassies of both countries. “I believe that this is one of those topics that can be resolved very quickly and send a signal that we can still reach an agreement,” Lavrov said at a meeting with Blinken at the meeting of the OSCE foreign ministers in Stockholm.

He stressed that Russia was forced to respond to the American side for the expulsion of employees of its diplomatic mission in the United States. Therefore, “similar conditions” were created for the American embassy in Russia.

In addition, the Russian Foreign Minister said that the Russian side was ready to restore dialogue with the United States on the crisis in Ukraine. He added that Moscow is interested in uniting with Washington to resolve the conflict in Donbass. Lavrov recalled that American colleagues more than once offered assistance in this matter while maintaining the Normandy format.

On December 1, Russian Ambassador to the United States Anatoly Antonov said that in January and June 2022, 54 employees of the Russian diplomatic mission would be forced to leave Washington. The diplomat explained that accreditation is taken away from the spouses of the diplomatic corps employees, and visas are not issued to children. According to him, the US authorities refuse any dialogue on this issue.

In response, the Russian Foreign Ministry ordered the employees of the American embassy who have been on Russian territory for more than three years to leave the country. Employees of the American diplomatic corps will have to return to the United States by January 31, 2022.
