RBC: The Eurasian Development Bank will act as a creditor for the construction of the Meridian highway
Europe and China, a sponsor was found. The Eurasian Development Bank (EDB) was ready to act as a creditor and organize the construction of the first part of the road, RBC reports.
The memorandum on the bank's participation in the project within the framework of the Eurasian Congress in Moscow was signed by the head of the EDB board Nikolai Podguzov and the chairman of the board of directors Russian holding company, ex-deputy chairman of Gazprom, Alexander Ryazanov. The implementation of the project will begin in 2022.
The length of the route was decided to be reduced, it will reach 1.3 thousand kilometers instead of the planned 2 thousand. “We turned to Gomel at the request of the Belarusian government, and the route will be shorter by more than 300 km,” Ryazanov said. With the help of the route, they plan to increase the transit potential of the Eurasian space. According to forecasts, by 2035, the potential average annual volume of cargo transported along the route will reach from 6.1 million to 11.5 million tons.
