Costs for the construction of Russian megastrails disclosed

The Russian government has allocated 128 billion rubles for the construction of highways

The Russian government has disclosed the cost of the main mega-routes. Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin allocated 128 billion rubles for the construction of federal highways. The order is published on the website of the Cabinet.

Most of the funds will go to the construction of the M-12 Moscow – Nizhny Novgorod – Kazan highway, part of the international transport route “Meridian”, which will connect Europe and China. The journey from Moscow to Kazan along this highway will take 6.5 hours instead of more than 12. The construction of the road is planned to be completed in 2024.

The M-4 Don highway (Moscow – Voronezh – Rostov-on-Don – Krasnodar – Novorossiysk) will also receive funding. Two new high-speed sections will be built on this route – they will relieve traffic flows and reduce travel time from the capital to the Russian Black Sea coast.

In November, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Marat Khusnullin announced the resumption of active work on the project of a new megatrails “Meridian”. He stressed that, despite the COVID-19 pandemic, the transport industry has sufficient funds and capabilities to implement the project.
