According to the prime minister, such a measure was taken to accelerate the implementation of the policy aimed at protecting against the new omicron strain of the coronavirus and to avoid a lockdown on the eve of the New Year holidays.

“The new omicron mutation is worrying because it reminds of the coronavirus can constantly surprise us by finding a basis for survival, especially among the unvaccinated. The upcoming holidays and social events create conditions that can contribute to its revival, “- said the politician.

Mitsotakis also said that before Christmas and after the holidays, the government plans to distribute free self-tests to all adults in order to identify possible asymptomatic carriers virus.

Earlier it became known that from November 22, the Greek authorities will impose restrictions against the unvaccinated – they will affect both citizens of the republic and tourists. Thus, people without a vaccination certificate will be banned from entering all closed premises – museums, galleries, restaurants, theaters, fitness rooms and stadiums.
