Zelensky believes that citizens of Ukraine who have fallen under the NSDC sanctions cannot be considered people body into a powerful tool to combat threats to the national security of the country. This opinion was expressed by the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky at a press marathon, the broadcast of which is available on Facebook.
At the same time, the journalist of “Focus” Yekaterina Shumilo asked when the Security Council would be able to provide concrete facts and evidence on the basis of which decisions on the introduction of personal sanctions against Russians and Ukrainians themselves. “Are you not afraid that you will soon see the decisions of the ECHR that the rights of those people against whom the sanctions were imposed have been violated?” – she asked.
“You call them people, right? There are representatives of people, not all representatives of people are people. There are individuals, ”Zelensky replied. To prove his innocence, the politician stated that otherwise, there would be no law enforcement agencies in the world.
On February 2, President of Ukraine Zelensky put into effect the NSDC decision on the application of sanctions against 112 Ukraine, NewsOne and ZIK. On August 20, the council, without a court decision, imposed sanctions against the newspaper Strana.ua and its editor-in-chief Igor Guzhva. According to the journalist, the portal was blocked due to an alternative point of view on the conflict in Donbass and Zelensky's personal enmity.
In July, NSDC Secretary Oleksiy Danilov said that the department had imposed sanctions against hundreds of Ukrainian citizens. According to him, Kiev has established that out of 130 people who are subject to US Treasury sanctions, 127 are alive, and three people have died. As for these 127 persons, the NSDC imposed sanctions against 100, the secretary noted.
