Talks between Putin, Aliyev and Pashinyan began in Sochi

Negotiations between the presidents of Russia and Azerbaijan and the Prime Minister of Armenia began in Sochi Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan. This was reported on Friday, November 26, TASS reported.

According to Putin, the purpose of the talks is to create conditions for the revival of Nagorno-Karabakh. He considered it positive that there are no full-scale hostilities in Karabakh, although there are occasional incidents. Putin added that Russia, Azerbaijan and Armenia should strive to strengthen ties, not destroy.

In 1991, Nagorno-Karabakh, mostly populated by Armenians, declared independence from Azerbaijan, which tried to return it by force. In 1994, the parties signed a truce, which was periodically violated.

On September 27, 2020, battles began on the line of contact between Azerbaijan and the unrecognized Nagorno-Karabakh Republic. A few weeks later, on November 9, the leaders of Russia, Armenia and Azerbaijan adopted a ceasefire statement. Baku regained control of part of the lost territories.
