An employee of the Listvyazhnaya mine: the elevated gas level has been ignored in the mine for years and all dissenting employees were encouraged to “go into the cold”. An employee of the mine, who wished to remain anonymous, told Lente.ru about this.
“I have been working here for several years, and there was always a lot of gas in the mine. We tried to do something about it, ventilated it, but it did little to help. There was no special talk of any equipment purchases. The management has always adhered to the position that everyone who does not like it can go out into the cold, “he said.
He noted that the employees of the mine rarely came into conflict with the authorities, since Listvyazhnaya was practically the only place where local residents could receive decent wages.
“There are not many normal jobs in the region, so there were almost no people willing to leave. I received about 70 thousand rubles on my hands at the mine. There are no such salaries anywhere nearby, normal money is paid only at the mine. And people have worked here for a long time, I know those who have been working here for 10-15 years. I can’t say that due to the conditions of some people I fled from the mine, ”he said.
According to the miner, Listvyazhnaya and the people working in it had no protection from a possible gas explosion. At the same time, methane was constantly in the shaft of the mine, since it is a by-product in places of coal deposits.

The miner himself was not in Listvyazhnaya on the day of the tragedy, but seven of his comrades went into the face.

In a conversation with Lenta.ru, the first deputy chairman of Rosugleprof Ruben Badalov said that the total depreciation of the funds of Russian mines is about 70 percent. According to him, the owners are actively investing in mining technologies and production, as they help to increase profits, but they save on systems that ensure the safety and comfortable working conditions of personnel – ventilation and lifts.
Gas explosion at the Listvyazhnaya mine occurred on the morning of November 25th. 51 people died, 63 were injured. Criminal cases were initiated on the fact of the tragedy under Part 3 of Article 217 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“Violation of the safety requirements of dangerous objects, resulting in the death of two or more persons”) and Part 3 of Article 293 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“Negligence, resulting in negligence death of two or more persons “).
