The hospitals of Yakutia received the drug “Betukladin” from the reindeer lichen of birch bark for the treatment of COVID-19 “Betukladin” from lichen and birch bark for the treatment of COVID-19. Tatiana Salova, Deputy Director General for Science and Development Programs of the Yakutsk Scientific Center of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, told Prime Agency about this.

On November 10, the biologically active additive “Betukladin”, developed by scientists from the Institute for Biological Problems of Cryolithozone of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, received Rospotrebnadzor certification. The researchers themselves claim that the approved drug has proven to be an effective remedy to combat the effects of COVID-19. The composition of the new supplement, in particular, includes betulin obtained from birch bark and lichen β-oligosaccharides, which remove toxins from the body, have anticoagulant and immunomodulatory effects.

Later Director of the Research Center for the Prevention and Treatment of Viral Infections Georgy Vikulov stated that Betukladin will have to go through all the necessary procedures before entering the mass market. He explained that if a drug is a dietary supplement, that is, it has a simplified registration scheme, it must prove its effectiveness in multicenter trials.
