Lukashenko: work on amendments to the basic law of the country has entered the home stretch

President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko announced that he was entering the home stretch on the new version of the constitution, BelTA informs.

“I believe that today we can state that the work on preparing amendments to the constitution has entered the home stretch,” Lukashenka said at a joint meeting of the constitutional commission and the working group on finalizing the draft the main law of the country.

In early November, Lukashenko announced a referendum on amendments to the constitution in February 2022.

Lukashenko announced the need to amend the constitution amid protests that gripped Belarus after the presidential elections in August 2020. He argued that after the adoption of the new version of the basic law, he will leave office.
