In 2015, the attackers received an intimate video featuring Valbuena. The blackmailers contacted Benzema, who passed on their demands to his teammate.

In the same year, the Real Madrid forward was expelled from the French national team. As a result, the striker missed the 2016 European Championship and the 2018 World Cup in Russia, which was victorious for the French. He returned to the team ahead of Euro 2020.
