The HRC appreciated the idea of banning mentioning the nationality of criminals in the media

HRC of Russia: the ban on mentioning the nationality of criminals in the media is contrary to the Constitution Civil Society and Human Rights (HRC) Pavel Gusev appreciated the idea of banning mentioning the nationalities of criminals in the media. He told TASS about this.

According to Gusev, such a bill contradicts not only the law on the media, but also the Russian Constitution. “We believe this law will exacerbate the situation and create discord. Moreover, favorable conditions are created for the criminal environment under which one can hide and commit various atrocities, “he said.

The head of the commission also noted that the regional authorities, on the contrary, should know how national criminal groups are formed , and work with this information. If you do not mention this fact, the situation on the crime of national minorities will only worsen, Gusev believes.

Earlier, Ramzan Kadyrov, the head of Chechnya, during the discussion around the bill, proposed to oblige the media to indicate in the materials the nationality of all criminals.

A bill banning the media from indicating the nationality of criminals in materials was submitted to the State Duma for consideration on November 22 by the Chechen parliament. According to the authors, provocative materials are often published in the media and social networks that can form a negative attitude towards a particular ethnic group. The discussion about this topic arose after a fight in New Moscow with the participation of natives of Azerbaijan, who, as it turned out later, are citizens of Russia.
